As is well known, the purpose of the Union is the development of the institution of maritime arbitration in Greece and especially in Piraeus.
The effort aims to make arbitration an “alternative dispute resolution” (“ADR”) method for the resolution of maritime disputes which will also be able to stand as a credible and internationally accepted procedure, able also to produce high quality results at a lower cost and faster than other relevant maritime arbitrations which are being conducted in other shipping centers.
At the meeting, it was decided to create working groups of awareness so as to spread to the Greek and International Maritime arena the optimal conditions and favorable terms which exist and are available in relation to the conduct of Shipowners’ arbitration and mediation in Greece. In addition, it was decided that the cooperation with the existing Maritime Unions and Associations would be encouraged in order to achieve the effective and efficient creation and operation of the Greek Maritime CLUSTER.
