Career:
Commercial and Legal practice:

• Worked for Sedgwick Forbes(hull insurance brokers) in claims, Britannia P & I club (claims and research) and Richards Butler (solicitors) training in litigation (1979-1981)
• Practised shipping litigation and arbitration with Holman Fenwick Willan (1982-1993)
• Established ORA Maritime Risk Management Ltd (1998); constructed risk management training programmes for consultation and has been advising shipping companies
  

Teaching and leadership positions

• Appointed Director of postgraduate shipping law courses at University College London (UCL) in 1993
• Established and Headed the Shipping Law Unit and the London Shipping Law Centre (LSLC) at UCL 
• Taught maritime law, carriage of goods by sea and marine insurance to LL.M students (1993-2006) UCL 
• Taught mediation principles and practice
• Brought the LSLC to the City of London in 2009, renamed it to LSLC - Maritime Business Forum and continues to lead its activities of advanced maritime law education to professionals, as its Chairman

Arbitration:

• Practising as a maritime arbitrator since 2006 in disputes concerning charter-parties, bills of lading, shipbuilding contracts, MOA, and marine insurance, accepting appointments under the LMAA terms; sitting with panels of three or as a sole arbitrator.
